What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin sheaths of dental-grade porcelain that affix to the front facing surfaces of teeth to change the appearance of your smile. We can use one veneer or several to correct or conceal cosmetic irregularities, creating a picture-perfect smile.

Should I Consider Porcelain Veneers?

No dental treatment is right for every patient. During your cosmetic dentistry consultation, we’ll walk you through all of the cosmetic treatment options that may benefit your smile. Patients who want to improve the appearance of a smile with chips, cracks, stains and gaps, can all benefit from porcelain veneers. These cosmetic dentistry solutions are easily applied in just two trips to our dental office. Veneer treatments are conservative, so we can maintain the majority of healthy tooth structure.

How are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

Porcelain veneer treatment is completed over the course of two short trips to our dental office. We begin by numbing around the treatment area. Then, we remove a small amount of surface enamel to allow the veneers to lay flat within the smile line. Next, we capture impressions of your prepared teeth that our skilled dental lab technicians will use to custom craft your high quality porcelain veneers. Finally, we’ll place temporary veneers to protect the prepared tooth structures. After our dental lab creates and returns the porcelain veneers, you’ll come back for your second appointment. At this shorter visit, we simply remove the temporary veneers and place your customized solutions, creating your perfected smile.

How do I Care for my Veneers?

Once your porcelain veneers are in place, you should keep the following at-home oral healthcare tips in mind to ensure you maintain your flawless results:

  • Brush teeth two minutes at a time twice each day.
  • Use soft or ultra soft bristled toothbrushes.
  • Brush gently to avoid excessive wear.
  • Floss daily to remove plaque between teeth.
  • Use a waxed floss or an air or water flosser to avoid tugging around the edges of the porcelain veneers.
  • Use custom mouthguards to protect teeth from nighttime teeth grinding and clenching.
  • Always wear sportsguards to protect teeth during athletic events and practices.
  • Don’t use teeth to open packages or crack nuts.
  • Avoid chewing on ice, fingernails, or other hard objects.
  • Visit our dental office twice each year for checkups and teeth cleanings.
